The Jewell Town District, listed on the National Register in 1983, is a colonial industrial village at West Whitehall Road and Jewell Street — wood-frame houses dating from about 1740, most built before 1850, where sawmills, a gristmill, a fulling mill and bog iron works once ran on the Powwow River. The Woodman Road district holds a c. 1830 house with a 19th-century barn and 25 acres of former farmland. Barns like that hold a lot, and none of it fits in two barrels.
