York Ended Curbside Bulk Pickup in July 2026

This is the biggest change to hit York homeowners in years, and plenty still haven't run into it. In the town's own words: starting July 6, 2026, curbside pickup for bulk waste items ended, and all curbside trash must now be properly bagged.

On renovation work the town is equally direct: construction material is not accepted for curbside collection, and its own guidance recommends renting a dumpster to dispose of it.

The Recycling & Compost Facility on Witchtrot Road runs Wednesdays and Saturdays, year-round, with an annual permit. But its rules limit it to brush, leaves, grass clippings, white goods and scrap metal, with everything else prohibited. White goods and scrap metal go with the metal pile regardless of quantity. Everything else in a cleanout is a different story. Plastics, wood furniture and construction debris are explicitly turned away, and for construction material the town points residents to a facility in Kennebunk — a long drive with a loaded truck.

So as of this year: no bulk at the curb, no C&D anywhere in town, bagged trash only.

Beach Cottage and Seasonal Cleanouts — York

York Beach and York Harbor are where the volume is. Dense small-lot seasonal cottages on short grid streets behind Short Sands and Long Sands, many with no driveway at all, tandem parking, and summer restrictions that make a mid-season drop genuinely difficult.
